swap shop

The ground level and outdoor vendors at the Ft. Lauderdale Swap Shop peddled a variety of knock-offs of mostly ordinary consumer goods. But when Bunny spied a neon sign that beckoned you to “CLOWNS ‘N’ THINGS” on the upper level, that’s when sparks flew. A handful of (economically) functioning entrepreneurs kept going amid abandoned shop booths, but the meat of the second floor was what amounted to the attic of a drive-in theater /circus/flea-market, scattered with random objets d’art. Put up dry-wall around one of these spaces, ship it to NY, and you’ve got something keener than the Whitney Biennial.
